NYC Immigration Bill Signed Into Law

Posted on Nov 14, 2014

B2avbDBIMAABdW4.jpg_largeOn November 14, in association with DeSales Media Group and the Diocese of Brooklyn, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio signed a bill into a law protecting some immigrants from detainers and possible deportation, even after cases have been resolved.

“What these bills do is they protect the rights of undocumented immigrants, of visa holders, and legal permanent residents alike, all of whom have suffered under the previous approach, and ultimately prevent families from being torn apart,” Mr. de Blasio said at a press conference outside Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Corona, Queens. The new law requires the NYPD to ignore requests from the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to detain persons in question and the law also forced the closing of the ICE office at Rikers Island where many immigrants were deported without having committed a serious crime.
