Father Antoine RizkFather Antoine Rizk, BSO, has been pastor of the Church of the Virgin Mary, Catholic Melkite Church in Brooklyn, NY, since 2008; for the past five years, he has served as the regional superior for the Basilian Salvatorian Order.

Born in Lebanon, Father Rizk, grew up in the midst of the country’s civil war which lasted for more than 25 years. Seemingly headed for a career in mathematics, he began studying for the priesthood at age 21 and joined the Basilian Salvatorian Order. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, eventually earning a licentiate in fundamental theology. He also studied fine arts, mastering drawing, painting and iconography.

He has served in a variety of teaching roles, becoming vice-rector at both a minor and major seminary in Lebanon. Subsequently, he was the superior at the College of Our Savior in Beirut, Lebanon, an institution that served students confronted with intellectual, social and financial challenges. He first came to the United States in 2004, serving as his Order’s novice master as well as teaching drawing, painting, iconography in an art studio. In 2008, he became pastor at the Church of the Virgin Mary.
