Executive Director of News Content & Development

DeSales Media Group, the media and technology arm of the Diocese of Brooklyn, is looking for a seasoned and creative manager to launch a successful digital operation for the company’s news group. This candidate will have a solid editorial background and the ability to easily work across platforms under daily deadlines. They will be the bridge between the group’s two newspapers and nightly newscast by transforming and promoting this content for our digital audience. This leader will also create short-form video and written content exclusively for digital platforms including social media. They will remain up to date on the changing trends of digital world, always seeking viable new platforms to post content. They must have excellent news judgment and be able to find the common thread that runs through secular and religious news and present it in a compelling way. This goes way beyond just covering diocesan events. It’s about reporting how faith plays a role in people’s lives and presenting the Catholic perspective on big international, national, and local stories.


  • Work with marketing department in the redesign of three news-based websites
  • Manage and update three websites and their social media accounts
  • Easily transition from print and broadcast writing style, consistently transition between brands and accounts, and keep track of several streams throughout the day
  • Utilize Facebook’s Business Manager
  • Conceive and produce short-form video content and optimize it for maximum reach
  • Create and supervise production of email newsletter
  • Attend video shoots as needed
  • Edit on Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop
  • Consistently identify opportunities to cross-promote content on various platforms
  • Create compelling graphics that will enhance digital videos
  • Manage live events on social media
  • Collaborate with the managing editor of newsgathering and other editors to outline daily digital strategy
  • Hire and manage a freelance digital producer who will assist in the daily operations and the production of content


  • Minimum of 5 years experience in digital production and news
  • Degree in journalism, communications or relevant studies
  • Strong understanding of social brand management and the ever-changing algorithms, especially of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Experience with keyword research, writing and copyediting for click-thru and SEO
  • Experience with WordPress and social media management tools/dashboards
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Strong and proven ability to multi-task and to work under deadlines
  • Proven track record of team-building and management skills
  • Excellent news judgment and story-telling skills
  • Basic knowledge of the Catholic Church, teachings, and traditions
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are a plus

DeSales Media Group is the non-profit communications and technology arm of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Services include media relations and strategy, marketing and social media, ad sales, educational support, video production, large events, and news content. DeSales Media Group operates NET-TV, a cable television channel that reaches more than two million people in the New York area. Its news group produces a nightly television program, two award-winning newspapers (The Tablet and Nuestra Voz), and is currently launching a digital department that will produce and distribute exclusive news and informational content. We don’t just cover our own backyard. We go where the news is happening. Recently, our reporters traveled to Puerto Rico, Texas, Colombia, Rome, and Hong Kong. The news department is the only outlet in the country to offer extensive live coverage of papal trips and just completed more than 40 hours of live in-depth reporting of the Holy Father’s trip to Chile and Peru.
