Who We Are
DeSales Media Group is the communications, creative services, and technology arm of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Our services include media relations and strategy, marketing and social media, ad sales, educational support, video production, large events, and news content. We operate a cable television channel that reaches more than two million people in the New York metro area, and our newsgroup produces a nightly television program and two award-winning newspapers. DeSales Media Group is growing and looking for creative and experienced professionals who are motivated to make a difference.

The Opportunity
DeSales Media Group’s Creative Department pushes the envelope of what it means to engage our audience. Part digital/creative agency, part brand marketing, and part software services provider, we cover a lot of ground. We manage the websites for 125 different institutions and brands under our umbrella. We run digital campaigns to increase donations for scholarships for education. We broadcast key events live on social to reach those unable to get out of the house. We think differently about what it means to be in the service of our institution. DeSales Media Group doesn’t dwell on the past: we look to the future. And we are excited for the challenge.

Who You Are
As head of the Digital team, you bring a decade of experience in digital marketing to bear. You’ve built engaging sites. You’ve built sticky apps. You’ve run cost-effective search and display campaigns. You know when to boost social posts, and when to run social ads. You’ve optimized your emails and maybe you’ve built an automated drip campaign. You are an excellent project manager. You require robust reporting and base all your decisions on the data. You know what good user experience means, and that a good UI is only part of it. You’ve built a team from scratch and know how to hire the best employees and contractors. You’re comfortable with people and with code. You know when and where to re-market. You get SEO, and how it relates to the content strategy. You analyze the UTM data and pivot accordingly. You think mobile-first. And you’re ready to do something meaningful. You’re ready to make a difference.

Your Responsibilities

  • Directly manage the digital team and its professional development, and expand the team as needed
  • Oversee external contractor and vendor relationships
  • Determine scope and timeline of projects with the web dev team, from PHP upgrades to new pages/sites, and keep all projects on track
  • Dream up and execute creative digital strategies and tactics to support company goals and department initiatives
  • Control the digital budget, and work with the marketing project manager to bring projects to life on time and on budget
  • Manage the marketing department’s tech stack
  • Manage and maintain our growing roster of 125+ WordPress websites
  • Analyze metrics & outcomes with Google Analytics to align multiple projects with the overall strategy
  • Own and rethink our social strategy (primarily Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram) across 30+ accounts
  • Turn our web properties into sticky, meaningful destinations designed to convert

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing landscape
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Experience hiring, managing, and developing people
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key metrics for effective ROI analysis
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment that is constantly changing
  • Agency management experience required; agency experience is a plus
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong passion for testing, data and metrics, and belief in discovering insights in data
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills – use and analyze data to inform media strategies and optimizations
  • Demonstrated leadership & strategic skills
  • Desire to become established as a company thought leader
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; organized with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, work quickly and to tight deadlines
  • Content management in WordPress a plus
  • Chrome Developer tools to inspect elements for errors a plus
  • Self-starter
  • Strong/proven collaboration skills
