NY State of Politics – A pair of television ads is being released on Tuesday by supporters of the Education Investment Tax Credit, including a 30-second spot that features Gov. Andrew Cuomo pushing the measure.
The ads are airing are statewide, both on broadcast and cable television.
“It’s about helping kids. And it’s about time,” the narrator says in one of the ads. “Tell the Assembly to pass the Education Tax Credit.”
A second spot features Cuomo boosting the proposal at an event and encouraging supporters to contact their legislator to urge them to back the measure.
“It give parents tax credits for private and religious school tuition,” the ad says. “It even funds after school programs in thousands of public schools.”
The commercials come as Cuomo has introduced a repackaged version of the $150 million annual tax credit program, which is aimed at spurring donations to both public schools as well as scholarships that benefit private schools.
Cuomo this month re-named the bill the Parental Choice in Education Act, which also includes tax credit provisions for teachers who purchase school supplies.
